Fencing
At September 2024, the Project has assisted the community with 73 kilometres of fencing across the catchment. That's about as long as the drive from Okaramio to Hira!
Funding is available for fencing of riparian and wetland areas to exclude stock. The Project pools funding from multiple Government sources to provide assistance to landowners for fencing labour and materials, so give us a ring and we'll see what we are able to help fund for your situation and goals. Fencing must be present before additional funding is granted for any riparian and wetland planting, including site preparation and maintenance.
The new Stock Exclusion rules came into effect on 1 July 2023, including the exclusion of stock from all natural wetlands. Fencing is considered the first line of defence in improving river water quality, so contact us if you're thinking about it, and we'll check out the funding available for you and your situation.
